Magdalena Riedl

Magdalena Riedl is an Austrian violinist currently based in London. She has performed with prominent musicians like James Ehnes, Barbara Hannigan, Alasdair Beatson, Adrian Brendel, Rakhi Singh (Manchester Collective), Henning Kraggerud, Linda Merrick and the Elias String Quartet at venues like Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room (Southbank Centre) and Conway Hall. Magdalena plays a violin by Enrico Ceruti kindly loaned to her through the Beare's International Violin Society.

 

Her solo performances include appearances with Hallé Orchestra at Bridgewater Hall and Nottingham Philharmonic at Southwell Minster, playing Sibelius Violin Concerto. She led an ensemble for a CD recording for Linn records with Barbara Hannigan, a program of Stravinsky chamber pieces and song cycles, which will be released in Autumn 2024. Magdalena has performed at festivals like Manchester Chamber Music Festival (Vermont), Virtuoso & Belcanto Festival (Italy) and Södertälje Chamber Festival (Sweden).

 

Recently, Magdalena was offered a place on the prestigious London Symphony Orchestra String Scheme, as well as the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra for the 2024 season and the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Academy during July/August 2024 in Germany. Magdalena is currently on the Professional Diploma program at the Royal Academy of Music studying with So-Ock Kim. She received a first degree on her BMus (Hons), which she completed at the RNCM in Manchester with Yair Kless. She has experience over a range of repertoire, leading chamber groups and orchestras with pieces by Copland, Britten, Higdon, Alberga, Arango-Prada, Monteverdi and Handel amongst others. She has previously been supported by scholarships from the Drake Calleja Trust and Help Musicians, and is currently in receipt of a Boise scholarship (Mendelssohn Scholarship Foundation) and a Craxton Trust scholarship.
