Schubert's Trout Quintet
Join us for a relaxing afternoon performance of two stunningly beautiful works for quintet. Opening the concert, Sir Arnold Bax's evocative, summery Harp Quintet. Written in 1919, Bax's single movement Harp Quintet was written in response to the composer's return to his native Ireland following the First World War, and in many ways is a celebration of his homeland.
Schubert's iconic Trout Quintet, is famed for it's variations on the theme of Schubert's lieder of the same title. Despite being completed when the composer was just 22 it never saw publication during his lifetime, a surprising fact considering that it is gone on to be one of the Schubert's most popular works.
